Rhonda's House Training Tips!

Rhonda's family adopted one of Shiloh's puppies.
Here are some of her house training tips:

"I am fortunate to have lots of help at night for training. Here's how I do it.
During the day, I take Bear outside at least once an hour and take him to his potty spot in the yard. I urge him to go potty. When he does, I praise him and give him a treat and a hug and make sure I use a lot of "good boy" praise. I do this from early morning until my boys get home from work and then they continue it through the night. It only took 24 hrs for it to sink in that he needs to potty outside. After the first 2 days, I let him tell me he has to go by running to the door. If he seems agitated, sniffing the floor, or hiding, I just pick him up and take him out. He always goes once outside. I have a pad down in the kitchen and he has used it once each day, usually just getting up from a nap. He's had a couple accidents, but not his fault. Too many people around who didn't pay attention to him, haha. He's done wonderful! He's growing so fast, it's scary! I love this puppy stage, but will really appreciate the fully trained puppy to come, lol.
Bless you both for sharing your gift with us!

(This we received from Rhonda a day later:)
"We had a little setback today, but that's expected. He is going thru a growth spurt and sleeping a lot. When he got up, he puddled before he got to the door. It happens, tell them to be very consistent and not to get discouraged by one bad day. It works, it just takes awhile."

Thank you Rhonda!

Annie...

As promised, I just posted larger and new images of Annie to the photo site (link, top right).

P.S. ... you will all get a laugh out of this!... we are trying our hand at house training Annie until her new home (new owners) finds her....

Annie, our last.

'sniff' ... we miss Feather and Missy...
A couple of folks have asked for updated photos of Annie... these were taken two or three days ago... to save time (not at my usual computer) I pulled these off puppyfind.com       ... not sure why Annie is last... she takes strongly after her great grandfather (Janipan).. very nice and loved puppy.
I will post more and bigger late this weekend.

Puppy update

I am remiss!  I will be posting some puppy training ideas from some folks who adopted one of the puppies and are experienced at it.

I also have  some new health ideas, and some happy reports. Maybe tomoorow!

PUPPY UPDATE:
Missy just today was adopted into a wonderful home near Seattle, and this family of humans, like others that have adopted Shiloh's puppies are current (or recent) Bernese people... once you fall in love with a bernese, you just want more, I guess!

That leaves Annie, and let me tell you she is a sweetheart. She likes to lay close to us when she is in the house, and is the most calm of the litter.  She also has the shorter legs, more like (as we understand it) her Champion grandfather Janipan.  Not sure why she is last... maybe it is the photos I took. On  Puppy Find I listed her as "AKC Female" (search within the state of Washington for Bernese... easy to find)... the description makes it clear it is Annie.

More later!

Yipeeee! Running and Playing

Shiloh with Feather keeping  Pace.
Bernese love to frolic, run and play.  Daily (or nearly so) outdoor time with their family is a must in our observation.  While Bernese are not into long jogging, they are capable of amazing burst of speed.  Yesterday evening we took Shiloh (Mom) up on the ridge for a walk...  suddenly she started exhuberantly zipping to and fro, weaving  through the grass and sage brush with amazing speed.  ... A puppy weaning celebration we guessed.
Here is a photo of Missy... a little blurry... playing in the grass 3 or 4 days ago.

MISSY .. they all love to frolic.
